In a two-tier environment, Replication Manager connects directly to servers in the replication environment without communicating through a management server layer. You can use a two-tier environment to manage small, simple replication environments with fewer than ten servers. You can create an environment object that contains servers in the replication environment that Replication Manager manages.
To set up a replication environment, identify the servers, and the user name and password for connecting to the servers. Select the servers from a list that is derived from entries in the local interfaces or sql.ini file. You must provide the host and port information for each server. The passwords are encrypted when stored in the Sybase Central repository to protect access to the servers. The two-tier environment includes:
Tier one – Replication Manager.
Tier two – Replication servers and other objects in the replication environment.
